Folks across the Northeast get to start their Monday with poor air quality, high heat, extreme heat index and high humidity today. The National Weather Service has issued Air Quality Alerts, Excessive Heat Warning and Heat Advisories for much of the Northeast. Air quality alerts mean that ozone levels and pollutants will be high which can impact people who are very young, have respiratory problems, asthma or heart disease. This group of people need to take it easy today and try to stay in areas where the air quality is good. Above you can see the air quality map for today which shows poor air quality over the Northeast.
Excessive Heat Warnings and Advisories mean that heat indexes will be over 100 which can result in heat exhaustion or heat stroke if spending time outside to strenuous activities.
Today is the peak of the heat and poor air quality as temperatures will be a little lower Tuesday through Thursday. The good news is, a cold front is coming and will bring relief from the heat and humidity by the weekend.
