The Southeast will get pound by thunderstorms again today through Thursday. This time, the severe storms will occur in the mountains both days as up-slope flow and the proximity to the upper level jet will enhance thunderstorm development.

Many areas of the Southeast will have thunderstorms and flooding rains, an issue that has occurred over the last several weeks. As you can see on the rainfall image below, up to 5 inches of rain an occur over the next two days. That can result in street and stream flooding, especially in the mountains. The excessive rainfall outlook shows a moderate chance of flooding over the mountains Thursday.

In the severe weather area, the main impact will be damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph which can bring down trees and cause some damage to property.

The weather will improve Friday into the weekend.
