A busy severe weather day from the eastern Great Lakes into the Mid-Atlantic today. A powerful storm will move through Ontario today, pushing a cold front across the region. While the front will bring a welcome change to beautiful weather to areas stricken by days of rain and flooding, it will also kick off severe storms this afternoon into tonight.
The bulk of the severe storms will occur from Ontario into West Virginia and northern Virginia. Some models suggest that areas of western and south-central Pennsylvania is where the core of the severe weather and the potential of tornadoes will occur this afternoon.
The shear is very high across these areas which means any storm that develops can rotate supporting tornadoes and large hail.
Storms along the warm front near Baltimore and Washington will also turn severe but may also produce flash flooding, especially during the evening rush hour.
