First Snows of the Season Coming!

It’s fall and that means the change of seasons has started and the first snows will begin to show-up across the northern tier states. While some snow has fallen across the high country of the Rockies recently and also across parts of western Canada, the change int he pattern means accumulating snows for parts of the northern Plains and Rockies.

Snow is falling across parts of Wyoming  and western South Dakota this morning but more snow is on the way for next week and as the remains of Rosa move through, enough cold air may follow to produce a swath of snow across the northern Rockies and northern Plains. As you can see of the GFS snow map, 1-4 inches of snow is possible next week.

The WeatherMadness winter weather center will be open for business Monday October 1.

Hurricane Rosa will bring Flooding Rains to the Southwest

Hurricane Rosa will move into the Southwest next week and produce heavy rains that will result in flash flooding. The areas that will be hit the hardest will be Arizona, southern California, Utah and southern Nevada. That area will see 1-6 inches of rain depending on the exact track of Rosa.

Rosa will hit Baja as a strong hurricane and maybe still a tropical storm as it moves into Arizona.

In addition to the heavy rains, Rosa will produce thunderstorms and even severe weather in the form of high winds and a few tornadoes.
