GFS Snowfall

Heavy Snow for the Upper Midwest. Thank You Hurricane Michael!

This time of the year when you have a hurricane impacting the eastern part of the country, you have to watch for snowstorms as the jet stream takes wild swings. As you can see on the GFS jet stream map below, a dramatic ridge is over the eastern part of the country while the trough is digging into the Rockies and Plains. The means enough cold air will come into play to create a heavy snowstorm for the upper Midwest.

Snow will begin Wednesday afternoon across eastern North Dakota into northern Minnesota and become heavy Wednesday night. This will be a wet snowstorm with over 6 inches in many areas, especially northern Minnesota. Roads will become snow covered and slipper Thursday morning, and kiddies, maybe school delays Thursday!
