A major storm will hit the front range of the Rockies and the High Plains this weekend. The combination of upslope flow around the upper level low and thunderstorms moving into the cold air will result in very intense snow rates across Colorado into western Nebraska and Wyoming. This is will be a major storm that will shut down roads, especially I-80 and I-25 in that area. The snowfall could exceed 3 feet in some areas especially the foothills of Colorado. The heavy snow will move into the Plains and Midwest and will even hit Chicago. Many areas will see over 4 inches of snow with major travel delays. The other aspect of this storm is the severe weather. While it’s snowing heavily, just south of the snow area, tornadoes could be occurring. That’s the nature of this type of storm.
