Daily Weather Madness: Storms Explode this Evening…Gulf of Mexico Tropical Potential

Happy Weather Thursday!

An explosion of severe storms will hit the Northern Plains this afternoon into tonight. We may see storms that will produce damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes. The storms will start as supercell type thunderstorms but quickly will form into a massive squall line that will move all the way into Wisconsin by Friday morning.

This time next week, a tropical system will be developing in the Gulf of Mexico. Any area along the Gulf coast should watch the situation as the exact path and strength of the storm is uncertain right now. The GFS and ECMWF continue to point toward the western Gulf of Mexico for the track.

A backdoor cold front will head down the Mid-Atlantic coast later today and tonight. That front will bring an end to the heat all the way to North Carolina. We will actually see a cooler weather pattern developing for the Great Lakes and Northeast for next week as high pressure comes in from Canada. That high will also help spin-up the tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico.
