This week the tropics will be the main highlight as one system will develop in the Gulf of Mexico and the other off the Southeast coast. The system in the Gulf of Mexico may rapidly develop into a tropical storm prior to making it to the Texas coast. If it does get named, the storm will be Nicholas. The storm will move along the Texas coast and bring heavy rains and gusty winds.

The second system will develop off the Southeast coast. That system will move north and may skirt the Mid-Atlantic and New England coasts. I am not sure if the system will actually back into the coast per the operational models where trying to do the last couple of days.

The warmth and humidity will increase across the East and with a front hanging across the Plains into the Great Lakes and Northeast, severe storms will be on the prowl this week. That front will be held-up from going too far east due to the tropical system along the coast.

The West will remain dry and warm.

  1. Um, not Julian. We already had Larry and Mindy. Nicholas and Odette are next? I hope Odette stays offshore like the latest models. Ida was plenty enough tropical for me!

You are correct. Nicholas will be next. Sunday mornings are not fully awake.

    1. We’ll take the tropical moisture from it here in western Maine where we still have a rain defecit.
