A clipper will start this week with snow from the Upper Midwest into the Northeast. This will not be a major snow event but more of nuisance event with a coating to 3 inches of snow.
The big story this week will be the major storm that will develop in the Plains and move across the Great Lakes into the Northeast from Tuesday through Friday. This will be a long event with major snows coming out of the Rockies and into the Plains, Great Lakes and Northeast. Over 4 inches of snow with gusty winds will occur with some areas having over a foot of wind blown snow. Major ice will occur from the lower Great Lakes into New England. That area will see over a half inch of ice with very poor travel conditions Wednesday into Thursday.
Some areas of the Northeast will see over a foot of snow with this storm.
The other aspect of the storm will be the severe weather across the South and Tennessee Valley Wednesday. Storms will produce damaging winds and perhaps a few tornadoes.
