Major Winter to Strike the Northeast

Heavy snow is falling across Kansas this morning. That area of snow will weaken and move into the Mississippi Valley and Ohio Valley tonight then into the Appalachians and Northeast Saturday into Saturday night. The snows in the Ohio and Mississippi Valleys will see 1-4 inches of snow while the heaviest snows will hit areas from south-central Pennsylvania into New England. Parts of New England and the southern Hudson Valley will see over a foot of snow. This has been a very consistent storm on the operational models but the I-95 corridor from NYC to DCA was way overdone on the GFS model in regards to snow. These areas now look more like snow and rain mix instead of heavy snow. The snow will last about 6-8 hours in any one location followed by light snow and flurries Sunday. The Roanoke Valley will see a mix of snow and sleet going over to rain Saturday.
