🔥 THE HEAT IS ON — BUT A PATTERN CHANGE IS COMING!
The focus today is on the dangerous heat stretching from the lower Mississippi Valley into the Tennessee Valley.
We've been dealing with a prolonged stretch of very hot weather across this region, but here's the thing: As we move deeper into September and normal temperatures begin dropping quickly, this heat is becoming increasingly abnormal.
We're now seeing temperatures running 10 to 15 degrees above normal in some locations, and that departure from average is becoming more significant with each passing day.
🌡️ EXTREME HEAT CONTINUES
Today and tomorrow, temperatures will climb into the 90s to near 100 degrees, with some extremely high heat indexes across parts of the region.
The combination of excessive temperatures and humidity will make conditions feel even more oppressive. For people working outdoors, exercising, or spending extended periods outside, heat safety will remain important.
But the good news is that this stretch of heat is not going to last forever.
⛈️ A COLD FRONT WILL FINALLY BRING RELIEF
The pattern will begin to change this weekend as a cold front starts pushing into the region.
That front will bring showers and thunderstorms, eventually moving through the lower Mississippi Valley and Tennessee Valley this weekend and into early next week.
Behind the front, we should see:
Cooler temperatures
Lower humidity
More comfortable conditions
A noticeable change toward a fall-like pattern
Now, that doesn't mean the heat is completely finished. We will still see additional surges of warmth from time to time, but the overall pattern is beginning to shift.
🌪️ FROM EXTREME HEAT TO SEVERE WEATHER?
And this is where things get interesting.
As we move through the next two days and the next two weeks, I think we're going to start switching gears.
Instead of focusing almost exclusively on extreme heat, our attention will increasingly turn toward severe weather potential.
The changing jet stream, advancing cold fronts and increasing temperature contrasts could create a more active storm pattern as we move farther into fall.
So while the heat is still making headlines across the South, the weather pattern is beginning to evolve.
The summer heat won't disappear overnight, but the atmosphere is getting ready for a change.
