The storm here in Queens, NYC around 4:30pm … Watch with the volume up for the full icy effect

I have a feeling there will be some thunder and lightning tomorrow afternoon here in Queens, this feels like that kind of storm.

I am convinced someone put a winter curse on New York City. Absolutely horrible weather when it’s sunny – windy and bitterly cold – and then warms up to over 50 degrees with every storm, rinse and repeat. I think I will call it that: The Rinse and Repeat Curse.

Here in New York City, it seems like for the past few years we are almost always on the warm side of every winter storm. Has the ocean warmed so much that the jet stream or something is pushing every storm that comes up the coast more to the west than it used to be? What’s behind this?

I have to say what’s the most frustrating here in NYC is how the same thing that happened the last few winters is happening again: it warms up with each storm to the 50s and then plummets to the 30s and 40s the next few days, and then the cycle repeats. No snow or even ice. The storms just continuously move to the west and will not go to the east…Read More

I watched the Long-range video. Just a couple of observations:

1) It is not unusual for us here in NYC to get zero snow before January. We rarely have had a White Christmas.

We have a thunderstorm this evening here in NYC. The most exciting weather we’ve experienced in weeks. Unless you find cloudy skies and spring-like warmth in January exciting.

The polar front is moving through NYC, I snapped this video on my air conditioner just now 🙂 Looks like the front is moving through with some sleet?

If you hate snow and ice, move to New York City. The only northern city apparently that gets tropical rainstorms during the winter. You can’t make this …. up. 🙂

I figured I’d check out the drought conditions. The most dramatic change over the past month or so has been in Texas.

Finally… we are getting some actual thunderstorm activity in Queens today. Though it is weird how it still seems to be struggling to get really drenching downpours like we typically do this time of the year.
