This week to start off the holiday, we will still be dealing with severe weather multiple times this week. From the Plains to the Midwest to the Ohio Valley and into parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. Over the course of the week, we will see storms develop multiple times over the course of several days. I highlighted the map where the severe weather will be this week and it’s a very large part of the US, who will continue to deal with rain and storms. Areas along the Tennessee and Mississippi Valley’s will continue to deal with dangerous flooding this week as more rain will continue to drench the area. Some of these areas could see another 3-5’’ of rain this week, on top of the several inches of rain they saw last week. Wind, hail, and tornadoes will all be in play this week for several area of the US. The dew point temperature will be in the 60’s for most of the week in Texas, the Mississippi and Tennessee Valley’s, and the Southern Plains. The higher dew point temperatures help these tornadoes form with all the warm moist air and instability needed. Along the Oklahoma/Texas border and throughout the Plains into the Mississippi Valley will be where most of the tornadoes form this week. There could also be some tornadoes form to the East of these areas as well, given the large area of severe weather we will see this week. Later in the week the Southeast will see some storms form on Wednesday into Thursday. Some of those storms could be severe but will mainly just be some isolated thunderstorms. Warm sunny weather continues in the West this week. Cooler weather in the Pacific NW this week and well as parts of the Northeast around Vermont, NH, and Maine. 

Friday and Saturday for parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states could see some storms develop and move into the area. Some of these storms could be severe. Overall, a wet weather pattern for the Plains into the East this week, with severe weather possible almost everyday this week.

A life-threatening flooding event is currently unfolding across the High River Valley, stretching from Southern Ohio to Arkansas over the next four days. Intense rainfall is expected to develop today and persist over the same area for the duration of the event. Up to a foot of rain is forecasted to fall, causing streams and rivers to overflow their banks and flood many areas along the Ohio River and down to the Mississippi River.

Massive flooding is anticipated, with many streams expected to reach the rooftops of homes. Residents in flood-prone areas are strongly advised to evacuate before the floodwaters rise rapidly. This is a serious situation, as thunderstorms are forecasted to remain stationary over the region, continuing to produce heavy rainfall for the next four days.

In addition to the heavy rain, severe weather is expected to accompany some of the thunderstorms, including damaging winds and the possibility of tornadoes in flood-prone areas through Saturday. It is crucial to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this dangerous weather event.
