A very cool day, indeed. This was my 4th and by far the most memorable total solar eclipse: 1959 (Cape Cod), 1963 (Maine) and 1970 (Virginia) .We had 2 minutes and 53 seconds of totality at our house. The temperature started to drop at about 65% of totality and dropped 5-6 degrees in the shade. A sunny, windless 60 degree day on April 8th in Vermont is very rare. The birds, peepers and frogs went wild for about a minute, but were very quiet on either side of totality. Some high clouds came in just after totality. It appears that we are in for an extended period of rain later in the week followed by some snow around the 14th. There is still a lot of snow in the mountains so river flooding may occur. Still 70 or so inches at the stake on top of Mount Mansfield. Henry, thanks for the winter forecast.
