Hail and Gusty Storms in the Dry Slot

The dry slot of the storm over the Midwest will open up today and allow for heating and thunderstorms to develop from PA into VA. The storms that do develop have the potential to produce small hail and gusty winds. Winds may gust over 40 mph with any thunderstorm and hail can be over nickle size. While not a big event, it can get exciting for some under the storms this afternoon and evening.

Major Severe Weather Outbreak Today into Saturday. Hundreds of Wind Reports Predicted!

Now that we are moving into April, the severe weather season will really get going. Today as complex severe weather event will occur from Oklahoma to Alabama with several areas of severe weather and tornadoes occurring at the same time. We will see tornadoes across Alabama today with a high wind event coming through overnight. Tornadoes, some long tracked and damaging will occur in Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma into Mississippi this evening into tonight. The real danger here is that while we see a squall line with wind damaging cutting across the warned area, tornadoes may occur during the overnight hours. I predict we will see over 200 reports of wind damage, over 25 tornado reports, and over a 100 reports of damaging hail. Along with the severe storms will come flash flooding across the region as well.

Severe Hail and Perhaps a Tornado Virginia and North Carolina Today

A Stalled front across Virginia into North Carolina will be the focal point for thunderstorms to develop along this afternoon. Some of the storms will become severe producing large, damaging hail and gusty winds. A brief tornado is possible, especially over the western parts of Virginia. The storms will occur this afternoon as temperatures rise to near 80 degrees around the front. We will see storms developing after 3pm this afternoon.
