Strangest winter we’ve had in a while here in CT and it hasn’t even officially started! AI and most models have become worthless toys to get people excited and send them to the store for milk and bread. I am dating myself but we had a meteorologist on Channel 3 in Hartford, CT in the 70’s named Ken Garee who had very few models to go by and nailed 95% of predicted snowstorms. When other stations were hyping up a storm for 12-18 inches, Ken would predict 4-8 inches and nail it. What happened to that kind of meteorology? Anyone here remember Mr. Garee?

    • He was the only one, as I recall.

    • I recall that John Ghiorse in Providence also called it right. When the first flakes began to fall at 10 AM, I was prepared to leave work early for my 25 mile commute. Blizzard white out set in early and 3 hours later I arrived home. Thanks to the early warnings, I made it home, not like the unfortunate commuters who ended up in shelters in Providence after being rescued from I-95 by the police.

    • Don’t forget Bruce and Barry’s head honcho Don Kent. There’s a guy who got up in the middle of the night to drive over to WBZ, do the morning weather and then drive back to the south shore to run his appliance store.. weathermen got paid real well back then hehe
