• In two storms, one over Christmas and one over New Years, the Sierra snow season is back on track.
100 to 150 inches of snow (measured at 8000 ft) at various areas around the Lake Tahoe basin. Photos from 10,000 and 8500 ft at Heavenly ski resort.

  • Having lunch on the deck in only a shirt today (Friday) at 6250 ft. by lake Tahoe in the Sierras. The bottom falls out tonight, as another holiday storm comes in. This year, they all seem to be warmer than normal, with some rain and low ratio snow at lake level (6250) and higher ratios on the ski mountains. (The closest one to me, Heavenly, goes…Read More

  • Nice Christmas miracle for the Tahoe area… Raining today, but up to 5 feet of snow by Friday as we move to the cold side of the ‘atmospheric river’.

  • East coasters enjoy your upcoming snows!… Out here in the sierras we have ridging, blue skies, and near record warmth for Thanksgiving. Snow last week above 8500 ft, but nothing at lake level. I’ll be missing tonight’s video discussion; have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!

  • Your ridge in the east gets us a trough in the west — Look at our weekend temperatures!

  • Interstate 80 currently closed due to spin outs and stuck vehicles.
Expecting up to 4 feet at the crest and west side of the lake. Local forecast for storm through Tuesday— you can see on the chart how depending on location and altitude, snow amounts will vary from 1 to 4 feet.

  • Sierra Spy :
A nice dose of moisture here for the first week in February, but with a persistently positive PNA, snow levels have been relatively high. Only about 8 inches of wet “Sierra Cement” here at lake level in Tahoe (6250 ft), but 3-6 feet above 8000 ft. Generally higher totals as you go south. It doesn’t take much to disrupt travel…Read More
