Monday AM – I made changes to the map based on the surface map which shows the extent of the cold air farther south this morning.

Also overnight, the models slipped a little more south with the snow in the Appalachians and New England plus the surface temps a slightly warmer which means a lower snow ratio. So changes to the map was done based on the new models and surface map.

Sunday AM: There has been a slight shift in the snow area the last 24 hours but the overall amount of snow has not changed very much. It still appears that a skinny swath of rain to heavy wet snow will come out of Oklahoma and head into the Ohio Valley Monday into Monday night. Heavy snow breaks out across central Pennsylvania Tuesday morning and heads into New England by Midday. Snow rates will will be 1-2 inches per hour with snow ratios of 8:1.

The major storm is over the West this morning and will begin to spread snow into Colorado this weekend. Snow will spread south into Texas and Oklahoma Sunday then turn to the Northeast heading up through Missouri into Ohio by Monday night. A swath of 1-6 inches of snow will occur with the storm from Colorado into Ohio.
The storm is going to jump the Appalachians and show reform off Maryland. While the models continue to show a wide range of solutions, but the trend has been for the snows to shift south. New York City and Philadelphia will not escape the snow, it’s just a matter of how much snow will fall. The problem spots are Boston, Baltimore and Washington because any shift in the snow area will bring either no snow north of rain south.
In the heaviest snow area, 8-16 inches will occur which will cause major travel problems.
