• Putting this so called “storm” into perspective, NWS for western Connecticut forecast 5-8 inches yesterday, 3-5 inches at 6 AM this morning ago, 1-3 inches at 10 AM and now this for tomorrow, December 2.

A mix of wintry precipitation in the morning. Then periods of rain expected in the afternoon. High 36F. Winds NE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of…Read More

  • NWS hedging on tomorrow and Sunday’s storm in the Northeast. Forecast for Litchfield county in CT:
The main challenge with this system then comes daybreak Sunday
as the primary surface low tracks near lakes Erie and Ontario.
There is good agreement of this track in latest deterministic
and ensemble forecasts, though exact positioning…Read More

  • Local forecast in CT had us under a Winter storm warning 6-10 inches of snow. Another FLOP: 2 inches with a thin layer of ice on top. Storm was supposed to last till 7-9 AM but was over at 4 AM. NWS blamed extreme dry slot and the upper level low being too strong to make the coastal low take over. Right…OK.

  • Next storm due Saturday night into Sunday morning in CT looks similar to today but local meteorologists calling for colder solution and moderate to heavy snow. As much as 9″ possible in Watertown, CT. Maybe a better organized coastal low and cold air locked in? Either way, February has started in a much more interesting fashion than boring…Read More

    • When is this map for specifically and who put it out?

    • It’s not for any specific time. It’s just a representation of what we used to see in the Northeast. Sorry to mislead anyone. These past few winters here have relegated this map to be placed in a museum. 😅

  • 0 degrees in Watertown, CT. The usual morning walk will have at least a 3 hour delay today. 😉

  • Strangest winter we’ve had in a while here in CT and it hasn’t even officially started! AI and most models have become worthless toys to get people excited and send them to the store for milk and bread. I am dating myself but we had a meteorologist on Channel 3 in Hartford, CT in the 70’s named Ken Garee who had very few models to go by and nailed…Read More

    • He was the only one, as I recall.

    • I recall that John Ghiorse in Providence also called it right. When the first flakes began to fall at 10 AM, I was prepared to leave work early for my 25 mile commute. Blizzard white out set in early and 3 hours later I arrived home. Thanks to the early warnings, I made it home, not like the unfortunate commuters who ended up in shelters in…Read More

    • Don’t forget Bruce and Barry’s head honcho Don Kent. There’s a guy who got up in the middle of the night to drive over to WBZ, do the morning weather and then drive back to the south shore to run his appliance store.. weathermen got paid real well back then hehe

  • I’m with you, Henry. 3″ here in Watertown, CT so far. Rain/Snow line at the shoreline not advancing North right now.

  • About 3″ here in CT. 33 degrees and still snowing with first school delays and closings. Kids are happy!
