• Light snow at Hagerstown after 6 inches this morning. Temperature 12 degrees. Wind has switched to out of the north which should erode any warm air trying to work in aloft but also seems to be drying up the moisture. Very disappointing if no more snow accumulation today.

  • NOAA official forecast for Oakland Md calls for a high today of 28 with a mixture. Currently 5 degrees there with heavy snow. Might not make 28.

  • Long fetch of moisture from the Gulf of America is an indication that this storm will last all day into the darkness.

  • Hagerstown now 6 inches and temperature holding at 11 degrees. Moderate snow currently. Cold air wedge aloft still holding and no mixture.

  • Whitetail Mountain Resort, 11 miles from my place, reporting 5 inches so far and 11 degrees. Their official forecast is for 16-22 inches through this evening and another 4 inches tonight. If Hagerstown can hold off the sleet down here in the valley, we could approach those totals but doubtful. Hagerstown officially 5 inches so far.

  • NOAA saying at 9:40 update that models are coming in slower with change over to sleet so they bumped up snow totals to 3-5 inches by morning and up to 10 more inches tomorrow and then still a 90% chance of snow tomorrow night lasting to early Monday morning. Temperatures staying in the teens for the whole event. Looks like Euro turns out spot…Read More

  • Official NOAA forecast for Hagerstown at 3:30 P.M. is a total snow/sleet accumulation west and north of US 340(Harper’s Ferry WVA) is 12-16 inches. Higher end where sleet doesn’t mix in. Current temp. is 14 and dewpoint of -4.

  • Oakland MD holding at minus 8 at 8:00A.M. Around Hagerstown a new update from NOAA now has any mixture holding to the south around Harper’s Ferry WVA or about 30 miles south of me. A close call but still looking like mostly snow event as you head into southern PA just a few miles north of me.

  • Good morning. I am up early to check things out and what I am seeing and hearing from NOAA is encouraging. It seems that the colder solutions for this storm are going to work out regardless of what any model is printing out. Now it is time for actual observations to take over. They have added to the snow totals for Hagerstown considerably.…Read More

  • Already down to zero at Oakland MD.

  • CMC12z jumps on board for possible east coast blizzard next weekend.

  • GFS 00z showing a blizzard late next weekend along the east coast. JB has mentioned this possibility also. The problem is that the GFS cries wolf too often.

  • People being urged to stay off the roads Sat. night Sun. in my area to give the plows a chance to try an keep them open. You get stuck out along a road and they can’t get to you quickly you could freeze to death.

  • The storm appearing on the models for next weekend could be a blizzard up and down the coast. The CMC has already jumped on it while the GFS is MIA.

  • It’s that time of the day again. The time for the 18z model runs that are never more than about half true. The GFS leads the pack in this regard.

  • Afternoon NOAA discussion says 12z EURO guidance has trended colder through all layers of the atmosphere lessening the chance of mixed precipitation from about DC north and west. I say good, good, good. My snowblower is serviced and ready to launch.

  • NOAA has posted 90% chance of snow for Hagerstown beginning around Saturday evening and lasting at least through Sunday evening. A 24-30 hr. storm with high snow ratios of 15 or 20 to one. Any mixing would be on the eastern shore of Md.

  • I don’t like the 12z CMC moving it any further north or we might have precipitation issues like a mixture for Hagerstown. Still a little outside the window of probability on the models. Thursday at 12z or at 00z should just about nail precipitation types everywhere.
