Just a comment on Matt K’s weekly summary. Today’s (11.30) is the best he’s done so far, covering a complicated map with clarity and confidence. He improves every week. Good job!
Who’s Matt k?

Happy birthday Henry! I just had my 72nd birthday this past Sunday, Oct. 12. Have a good one!
All of us October kids! I turned 72 the 6 th!
We had more thundershowers across the Las Vegas Valley last night with some impressive in cloud lightning. This morning it is mostly sunny as most of the moisture has moved east into Arizona. Only widely scattered storms are expected today.
This morning we had a taste of all in the Las Vegas Valley as it was in the upper 60s early in the morning and clear skies. The expected high today is expected to be 90 to 93 in most valley locations, but we are gradually cooling down. Last year, it was well over 100 deg for most of September.
Yesterday there were more scattered thundershowers in the Las Vegas valley, and some interesting skies toward sunset. Today is cooler with temperatures in the mid 80s. Attached are a couple of pictures from yesterday.
Light to moderate rainfall has arrived in Southern NV this afternoon. Currently moderate rain is falling at my location with a temperature of 73 deg as of 13:50 PDT. It is much needed as other than the heavy downpour a couple of weeks ago, it has been a dry monsoon season for Southern NV.
At about 01:00 last night, an alert blared over my phone for a flash flood warning. Shortly there after, heavy storms moved into the area that dropped very heavy rain. There was plenty of in cloud lightning as these storms moved through. It was a significant rainfall for my part of the valley.
I always loved the Vegas rains….the fresh smell as the moisture evaporated…..the smells from the creosote and other bushes!
High dew points for our area.
Yesterday there were thunderstorms in the mountains to the west and into Southern CA. I took the attached photo late yesterday afternoon. It was overcast in the Las Vegas Valley all day which kept.temperatures down with high temps mainly in the upper 80s or low 90s. Last night, we did get some showers here and now the sun is back as of 13:30 PDT,…Read More
Here is a photo of the clouds at sunrise this morning.
Clouds have thickened over the area and this is depicted well in the latest sounding from SPC. Still some virga over the area.
It is another mostly cloudy day in Southern NV, with mid and high-level clouds. This is again, keeping temps down with a high today expected to be only around 91 deg. There is some virga visible but as with the monsoon moisture a couple days ago, most of the precip was confined to the mountain areas to the north and west of the Las Vegas Valley.
Over the last few days, monsoon moisture has flowed into the region which sparked flooding storms in the mountain areas, and mostly cloudy skies over the Las Vegas Valley area which cut the heat dramatically. Several mountain areas to our west and north had significant flash floods from the storms that had developed.
Temperatures will slowly…Read More
This has been the hottest day so far this summer in the Las Vegas Valley. I had a max temperature of 107 today while the airport was well above 111. The forecast high was expected to be 110 to 115 today. An excessive heat warning is in effect through tomorrow. The monsoon moisture and storms have been well east of here from extreme east AZ into…Read More
It has been a while since I checked in here. But we are definitely in the heat of summer here in Southern Nevada. Also, we have in in and out of the fire smoke from the California wildfires. The worst day was this past Tuesday when our AQI approached 180. Most of the days it has been in the upper end of the moderate range. It seems this pattern…Read More
After gusty storms Tuesday in the central and eastern portions of the Las Vegas Valley, we are on the western edge of a plume of monsoonal moisture that is helping fuel more thundershowers and gusty storms today. A light thundershower just passed through my area. a while ago at around 14:30 PDT. What happened earlier in the week looked indicative…Read More
After several days of 100+ high temps in southern Nevada, it has cooled down significantly after the passage of a cool front yesterday and last night. The highest temp at my place was 105 two day ago, while the airport recorded 111. Last night the low here was 66 deg, and currently it is a comfortable 82 degrees at 12:50 PDT and heat index of 77.…Read More
The heat has returned to the desert Southwest in force. The temperature here broke 100 deg. for the first time yesterday with a high of 102. It is currently 100 deg. as of 12:30 PDT and an excessive heat warning has been issued through tomorrow. Low temps have been in the low to mid 80s so far, and my low here early this morning was 80.
But the lack of humidity makes it somewhat more bearable…..but hot is hot!
It is a much less active day across Southern NV today compared to yesterday. There was one report of 1″ hail just north of Las Vegas that is also shown on the severe wx reports on SPC. This weekend looks to be quite warm again with temps reaching 100+ but dry for the most part.
At 13:50 PDT, we had another thunderstorm with a heavy downpour. Temperature dropped from 89 to 82 currently at 14:10. Now we just have light rain.
