A few days post Superstorm 1993 in State College PA. Corner of West Hamilton and Allen street. Allen street still mostly snow covered. 28″ if I recall correctly. Didn’t have student teaching in Altoona the whole week after (I remember it starting on a Friday Night). Still looking for other pictures from back then. For reference, that’s a…Read More
BIG DADDY OF THE CENTURY! Some areas N of I-80 measured over 40 inches.
Yeah one of the most beautiful storms ever unbelievable…Storm of the Century 1993….
Henry Referenced the Philly area in winter 1978. I was 9 at the time and we used to play street hockey all the time. The roads couldn’t get plowed frequently enough so you basically had this 3-4″ packed snow on top of the street that lasted for at least a few weeks. Thankful back then for having a short driveway to shovel!!!
I remember that year as well, was living north of Philly at the time.
I was 24 at the time and living in the mountains of SW PA…that was a nasty set of storms…the first brought 18” ,the second one was a good 12” dump and the last blessed us with 16”….this all happened from early January I think maybe the 10th and in a wave for the balance of the storms every 4 or 5 days…by the time February broke there was close to…Read More
A little over 3″ in West Chester PA (still snowing lightly though). Had 2 snow days and 1 2-hour delay this week (I think that matches our total for the last 3 winters in just one week!!)
West Chester, PA:
solid 2″ of snow with glaze of ice on top, freezing drizzle and 26 degrees
Happy New Year 2024 to all on this site. When I moved in late 2016, I was concerned about snow removal where I lived. Since moving the most snow that has fallen (from a single storm) here about 15-20 miles W of downtown Philly has been 4″. And not much overall in any winter since I moved. No real complaints (my family did shovel out a 100’…Read More
I’m about 35-40 miles north of center city Philly and we typically get much more snow as the rain/snow line often sets up closer to the city and to the east in NJ. Last winter produced several 1 in storms that melted within hours. My snow blower hasn’t been used for several years…but is eagerly awaiting Henry’s 12-18 inches next weekend!

Merry Christmas to one and all
Ah, Superstorm 1993. I was student teaching in Altoona, PA at the time. Science teacher of course. Anyway, I remember my supervisor teacher talking to another teacher who asked him how much he thought they’d get in Altoona and he said “1-2”. The other teacher said “inches” and my supervisor said “no feet”. I borrowed a meterstick on Friday…Read More
