Becoming obvious any indices beyond couple weeks are worthless. Change back last 3 year pattern of warm and snowless in east. Seems Cumberland valley is new central VA As that how temps and precip fall. 1 tropical system and 10 day wet spell with 3 in rain since Memorial Day doesn’t cut it. ,8 in C burg Hagerstown area doesn’t cut it. Duckpinmaster will agree. . Different year same pattern.
Well, you have to understand this about the Cumberland Valley in general and Hagerstown specifically, down slopping plays a major part in summer and winter precipitation totals. Plus geographically, Hagerstown is too far west most of the time to get the full effect of a good ocean storm and too far east to get high Lake effect totals in the winter. Check the weather records for the last 100+ years and you will find Hagerstown on average gets the least precipitation of any county in the state. The settlers called it “pleasant valley” because of its high degree of tranquil weather.
Agree PSU (from a fellow PSU) they are ‘fun to look at’ but based on last winter’s results versus these models it is best to focus on the next couple of weeks.
