Well, I think this is happening because the models are not reading this blocking pattern correctly. Maybe?
I think either the models are over doing the warm up because of the SOI values or it’s not going to cool off enough to support a full blown nor easter next weekend and we end up with a massive ice storm instead
Henry has been saying this. That 5 day warm up is crap.
And that is good that someone has enough experience and expertise to buck the system once and a while.

The amounts will be all over the place. It consistently shows snow in the same areas. Snow breeds snow.
Except it shows Hagerstown getting bombed and we have had nothing like that the last 3 months. Only 9 inches since November in several minor events.
Totals are irrelevant now I just like the fact it shows snow over the same areas that it has been snowing this season thus far.

About the time the WPO is forecast to return to negative and lasting into March.
We shall see, it’s already gone from the 12z but that’s not a true model run anyway. We shall see on the 18z
Excuse me but it is the 06Z and the 18Z runs of the GFS that are initiated without a full load of up to- date data. Not that the GFS is reliable on any run but the 12z and 00z do have a complete load of new data anyway.
16 days out and its the GFS. But I wouldn’t be surprise we see snow storm before March.

Hagerstown finally made it above freezing at 1:00 today. 34 degrees is a virtual heatwave compared to the last 10 days.
