notice all the 9-10 inch amounts RI and CT coast
imagine if the low had bombed out further west and south ! this would of been a blizzard for the northeast … not just a micro blizzard … i’m hoping for more big storms , we deserve them given all of the brutal cold .. extreme cold weather spells typically begin with and end with blockbuster storms … my wife and i will be watching much of this fr…Read More

henry forecasted a couple of inches … maybe a wooden star is in order
lots of reports of 8-10 inches in south west RI and along the RI/CT border (coastal areas) …reports of blizzard like conditions in eastern Ma … so this wasn’t a ‘couple of inches’ … this was really a norlun like trough missed in magnitude and location by quite a few meteorologists
That was pretty cool storm. Very localized along that trough.
NOAA just made this update to forecast : WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST THIS EVENING…
* WHAT…Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
* WHERE…Portions of central, eastern, and southeastern Massachusetts and northern and southern Rhode Island.
This may come close to blizzard conditions saturday afternoon
I’m watching the snow blowing here as fast as the cars going by. lol
gfs now has -7 inches in most of ri tonight through saturday afternoon.. it will be a surprise storm for many homage expecting two inches
it looks to me that the trough is setting up over se ri into se ma and maybe worcester .. there should be a stripe of 4-8 inches in this zone with the fluff factor
boy i hate auto correct and
btw these troughs sont
troughs don’t usually set up over nyc … some said in their file at
forecast a few days ago that this was what they were predicting
ok i give up .. looks almost certain i95 including se mass (exception of the cape) will be missed by this storm
18z euro has blizzard for much os se new england including boston .. low pulls in way to the west !
Post a picture
getting close to nyc !!
that’s a 966 mb low just off of nantucket
Looks about the same….we shall see how much more west it will go…
the low is now at the bench mark
what are the dynamics shutting this storm east ? .. the models are strikingly in agreement with the trajectory
It is just noise. to quote NOAA at this point. Anything this far out, just like last week is not dependable as far as final details. By the way, most model data coming in this afternoon is now trending west not east.
cool 😎 i am hoping for a southern new england blizzard this weekend so i can get out of flying to chicago for a business meeting sunday pm
No football so you must hate your job.
it cant sleet at 10 degrees … big cold highs always suppress storms etc etc .. I have heard a lot of fallacies and misconceptions espoused from meteorologists for this storm .. anyhow ,, maybe folks are rusty as it’s been a while since this type of scenario .. it can sleet at 10 degrees and big cold highs don’t dictate whether or not a storm…Read More
did not expect the off shore low to end things so quickly .. pulled all the precipitation out to sea!
tons of sleet and big dry slot forming as low bombs out along coast …
my area in RI now forecasted to change to rain sunday night … I knew this was going to happen ! oh well .. lots of meteorologists who issued forecasts a couple days ago did really miss the mark on this storm ..even up until last night night !
You give in to easy.
it amazes me how quickly warm air can invade a storm , even with super cold air mass in place …. yuck
Yeah it does, moisture air has a infinity for dry air. I’m guessing that’s why. Being very dry air I think some of these totals might be a tad high but still a lot of snow for us.
i hate sleet , all the models showing it though .. eastern pa, NJ, NYC, long island and se new england .. plain rain may work into southern NJ near the coast .. .. I’m praying for all snow in my area… but not looking good (jamestown/newport ri area )
could the high pressure slow movement of coastal storm so significant wrap around banding of snow takes place in parts of new england ? this would obviously raise snow totals , potentially by a lot
rather significant bust on snow totals for the upcoming storm in i95 corridor from baltimore to boston due to sleet …cut totals in half or more … not sure why weather folks are still forecasting 12-18 inches … should be 4 -8 in much of this region
It can not be a bust until after it happens.
very true!
I’d rather shovel two feet of snow than 4 to 8 inches sleet anytime.
disappointing for me .. but someone will get blockbuster snow out of this
0z canadian shows this sleet even
