Anyone else notice the double lows on the GFS? looks like its feeding back and in my opinion that’s a real problem for the final track.
Yes I did. Wanted to bring it up last night on WAAB but there was a robust conversation. BTW that is “weather and a beer”.
I was going to mention it as well last night but didn’t get a chance.

And one more thing maybe during one of weather and a beer in 1987 there was a storm in Virginia the morning of they said a dusting was possible well through the day they kept updating the totals by the end of the storm we had 18 inches the question is what caused that you don’t have to go out of your way now but maybe bring up next time we all get…Read More
I remember it well! Feb 22 because my first was born in it. We ended up with 13” in Springfield VA after a forecast of 1-3.
13 kids? Rather large family.
I also remember that storm all too well. The forecast was all wrong and the government decided to open but promptly reconsidered to close at 0900. My typical 45 min commute from downtown to Fairfax took 7 hours.

It was 17-20” up here on our hill Had to shovel a path for the dogs on the deck. It snowed another inch yesterday too 😅
Wow! Like I said you win the golden snowball award in NY for this past storm!

This storm appears to be MY storm in NC! Y’all to the west may miss out. Will be interesting to hear from Henry his thoughts on Wednesday night.

Need northern energy to get a neg tilt and bend it like Beckham
Yeah it’s leaving that northen energy behind so far…maybe on the 18z it’ll look more like what the CVS is talking about
Cause the 0z CFS has gone to Godzilla mode burning the Mid-Atlantic and east coast in over 30+ inches of snow….
that’s classic placement though…

The Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) is a key indicator of the strength and phase of the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO). Sustained strongly positive SOI values (typically 30-day average > +7 or +8) are associated with La Niña conditions, and sustained strongly negative values with…Read More
We need that negative SOI for those juicy southern energies to come a calling for the Mid-Atlantic.

On Mount Washington, this afternoon they are having sustained wind between 115 mph and 135 mph with frequent gusts into the 140s.
Model output today
The inconsistency drives me crazy

What’s the call for the Balt-Washington area?

Storm
Need a 1030-1040 high over Eastern Hudson Bay to keep feeding a N/NE wind as the Low reaches the warmer ocean. Maybe a surprise spin up? We can hope.

The government forecasting has been quite suspect the last few years. Inaccurate and at times inflated. Just like with Helene. A bit too much hype and hysteria that confuses the average citizen. I can only speculate ulterior motives.

Pretty sure I caught meteor or space debris this morning around 5 am in WV this was taken in the eastern sky while I was driving.
Looks like a rocket launch.
Confirmed space x rocket that was launched at 4:55 am.

Thanks for sharing. Still snowing here 30 degrees. It hit 80 earlier in the week. lol.
Starting to get the photos off the camera
Do you trust AI? FourCastNet…short for Fourier Forecasting Neural Network…uses machine learning to predict atmospheric dynamics and produce a weather forecast. It's predicting a MAJOR -NAO block and subsequent cold outbreak in the east in Mid-March. Let's see how it does! pic.twitter.com/daAY6IBTUV — Mike Thomas (@MikeTFox5) March 4, 2024

Fascinating! This is the local guy in my viewing area here in northern Virginia / DC area. He does the evening newscast, but he used to do mornings. During the pandemic shut down, he would deliver the morning forecast from his home with the Calvin and Hobbes poster behind them. 🤣

I not leaving. Henry does great job in summer as well. In my opinion for time and work he puts in deserves full year of money.
Completely agree…

and another one for the end of March….hmmmmmm

This past week starting with Tuesday the worst forecasting ever across the board. Obviously there is something wrong with the tools at hand.
