• Some of the freakiest February weather I can recall going on here in SE PA. Upper layer clouds like 50% clouds, 50% blue sky. Light rain/sunshower. Winds 50-60mph. Mid level and low level clouds zipping by like a NASCAR race. Still feels like 60 degrees outside (sorry guys, outdoor thermometer broken).

  • All snow from start to finish here in SE PA. About 3″. Curious to see how tonight and overnight plays out.

  • One of my favs. Best part is I bought this at a library sale for like $1. John Nese was president of Penn State Campus Weather Service when I was a freshman METEO student back in 1987. Ran into him in like 2003 at The Franklin Institute when I took my 6th graders there on a class trip.

  • Above freezing now. I teach my students that a good way to tell after an ice storm if it is above freezing is when you get driving from the trees. Tough to tell thickness of ice but probably .2 or so overnight

  • If I get the forecasted max of 1″ of snow overnight here in SE PA, and my son gets the max 4″ he is under a winter storm warning for in NC, he will have had more accumulating snow than me up to this point this winter.

  • dusting on grassy surfaces here in Springfield PA (west of Philly proper). Bodes well for the winter as I read a few years ago that in winter seasons when PHI had measurable snow before the Winter Solstice, 80% of those years had above average snowfall. I’ll take those odds.

  • Superstorm 1993 in State College. 28″ if I recall correctly. That’s me in our driveway (holding a meterestick) down to the underground mini garage for our apartment building. Not seen in picture is about 10 feet up the driveway, our neighbor’s Volkswagon Rabbit, which they tried to drive out in the snow when it was only a few inches got stuck…Read More

    • Those were the good old days when winters storms on the east coast where still happening…little did we know it wall starting to come to an end…but pictures like this are good to have for memories

    • I remember that storm well. I was actually snowed into my apartment since the snow had drifted around the house where I where my apartment was and I had to call the landlord to allow me to access the house to exit the place. What a storm!

  • Love waking up to this! 2-3″ here. My brother in NJ was just outside that crazy snow band that was putting down 4″ per hour per NWS reports. He got 5-6″. Salted roads just wet so can do errands. No complaints.

  • I appreciate you and the job that you do Henry. It is interesting to me to follow the daily ins and outs of the various models and I am learning a lot. The weather is gonna do what the weather is gonna do. We are at about 9-10″ total for the winter here (which is still less than half our average winter total), but at least it has been better…Read More

  • Still no winter weather advisory/winter storm watch or warning for Philly and adjoining Delaware County. NWS Mount Holy office still going 1-2″ there and their “final” emergency briefing at 4 pm today. Weather channel forecast at 3-5″, Accu-wx at about 1″. Considering we are about 12 hours from the onset of the snow, WTH???? I saw your new map…Read More
