High lights of 00z runs are GFS moves north and it is bombs away for the MID-Atlantic and up the coast into New England with high snow ratios due to extremely low temperatures. Dare I say we could be looking at feet instead of inches? I don’t want to jinx it.

This weekend setup is reminiscent of the 1996 storm that buried the mid Atlantic…….
Hope it is not one of those deals where there is a sharp gradient to the northwest and Hagerstown gets screwed again.

No its not..not even close..that storm was a classic nor’easter up the coast..

Euro has us getting .17″ of moisture this weekend @ single digits that might be around 5″ of snow. I guess it depends on how fine it will be?

JB is saying that the models are dragging their heels on the southern branch energy trying to keep it separate from phasing with the northern branch. He still thinks it will which will have significant effect up the coast. CMC is almost there if not there already.
12z CMC looking good for Mid-Atlantic snowstorm. GFS in a couple of days will adjust north or be left out in the cold like it usually is.

And with the SOI values being in full blown La Nina with no signs of letting up…we will be simply overwhelmed with cold air and that’s it.
A negative SOI usually is an indication that southern branch energy is getting involved in the pattern which is exactly what is needed for a Mid-Atlantic snowstorm.
Correct…but ever heard the term “too much of a good thing”? That trough is too strong and will shove the storms south of where we need it to be and then out to sea off the coast of SC.
