The models don’t handle neutral conditions well at all. Because we are in a neutral to very weak La Niña these models are struggling. It’s as if they were only programmed to handle extreme phases of weather but the gray areas of weather they struggle a lot. This is why the models (GFS-goofy forecast system) is all over the place. Once or if we…Read More
Yup! As a data analyst I know that AI runs off of the data that’s input. The models are not getting good data from AI when it comes to neutral conditions
No matter how you look at it…we are headed into a full blown La Nina. I have come to grips with instead getting excited at every single model run that shows a thread the needle storm with a 2% chance of actually verifying on the east coast Mid-Atlantic states. But hey at least it’s cold…for now anyways. Happy extended fall ..uh winter. I don’t…Read More
There is literally nothing that said a full blown La Niña is coming . 0
It’s called sarcasm…there is no evidence of a full blown La Nina coming as of yet …there’s still time.
On the other side – what is the scientific, evidence-based basis for saying there will be no La Niña?

Drought busting 0.09″ of rain over night for Hagerstown. I guess I had better do some more work on building my ark.
One chance of rain, according to NWS, in the next 7 days. A 50% of showers Thursday night. Therefore, Hagerstown ends October with 0.5 officially. And if it doesn’t rain then it will be going on 5 weeks without any at my house west of Hagerstown on the Old National Pike.

Becoming obvious any indices beyond couple weeks are worthless. Change back last 3 year pattern of warm and snowless in east. Seems Cumberland valley is new central VA As that how temps and precip fall. 1 tropical system and 10 day wet spell with 3 in rain since Memorial Day doesn’t cut it. ,8 in C burg Hagerstown area doesn’t cut it.…Read More
Well, you have to understand this about the Cumberland Valley in general and Hagerstown specifically, down slopping plays a major part in summer and winter precipitation totals. Plus geographically, Hagerstown is too far west most of the time to get the full effect of a good ocean storm and too far east to get high Lake effect totals in the…Read More
Agree PSU (from a fellow PSU) they are ‘fun to look at’ but based on last winter’s results versus these models it is best to focus on the next couple of weeks.
Who cares about February at this point? First, we have to weather the storm that is coming in November.
This storm is already upon us, stuck in a massive trough. The wind is already incredible.

At 14:00 PDT, we stand at 105 deg at my place, airport at 109. We have more extensive cumulus today, mainly in the easter sky. The monsoonal plumes of moisture that often stream through AZ and NM seldom make it into southern NV during the summer, but if a tropical system in the Eastern Pacific recurves into Baja California, that can bring us some…Read More
That is correct. Even when I lived in Sonoma County in Northern CA, thunderstorms would develop a few times over the Mayacama Mountains in summer. I could see the tops from the Sonoma Valley where I lived. Sometimes they would last into evening and you could watch the distant lightning.
More serious heat is now on the way for southern Nevada. We are under excessive heat warning for later this week. Maybe the East has a cool summer, but here in the West is where the hot summer is at.
The heat is indeed building now in the desert Southwest. We have a heat watch for later this coming week. It is getting toasty for sure.

Not one to post on sites, but here it goes. I live roughly 11 miles south of the Indian Lake area here in Ohio. We work with first responders on a daily basis. Thank you for posting and I know everyone will.
The sun has returned to Las Vegas with clouds over the mountains. I measured 0.43 inch from the rain we received last night and this morning. Plenty of new snow on the area mountains.
Well, as usual, some of the snow amounts miss here near HIA… and NW LancasterCo. So many times there’s a hole in those colored charts for snow. A few of the weather geeks down here, for years, kiddingly call it the “ TMI hole” affecting the weather here. Sarc… 🤔🤔
Not much to report this morning in the Las Vegas valley other than some gusty winds. There were some showers (snow showers for the mountains) late yesterday and last night. Improving conditions expected for the Big Game tomorrow here. Winds gusts up to and in excess of 30 mph this afternoon and cool with high temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s.
Back in Nashville for the weekend….brought the rain with me big time. Looks like more rain for vegas over Presidents’ Day! So….ill be bring the rain back with me, too!

I couldn’t pass-up creating an image off the “happier than a robin in a worm farm” comment today. Hoping the pattern pulls through for a few weeks in Mass!
Rain has stopped here in Las Vegas for now, but more is coming. Here is some news on the rainfall so far.

Moderate to heavy rain continuing in Las Vegas as of 09:30 PST.
After a break in the rain and showers, the rain is back here in Las Vegas. Right now, moderate rain at 07:55 am PST and a temperature of 49 deg. with calm winds.
I mean with all the talk of this winter being an El Nino winter and snow storms we thought were coming back to back…we sort all were expecting some like this…
How many of you actually saw that movie?? I did. Of course, I’m easily amused
