NWS just issued Severe Cold Watch for SE PA effective Sat afternoon. Only 3 days after Henry began allerting us to this possibility!

So far this winter the “warm ups” have been wicked under performing up here in the northeast…01451

New data coming in so not so fast on that supposedly 5-day warm-up next week. Could be cut in half preparing the way for a northeasterner next weekend. Looking more likely than yesterday. WeatherBell.
How many times do I need to say the samething
Well, I think this is happening because the models are not reading this blocking pattern correctly. Maybe?
I think either the models are over doing the warm up because of the SOI values or it’s not going to cool off enough to support a full blown nor easter next weekend and we end up with a massive ice storm instead
Henry has been saying this. That 5 day warm up is crap.
And that is good that someone has enough experience and expertise to buck the system once and a while.

Henry always says snow breeds snow.
18z GFS? Come on fellas, you can do better than that.

A picture of a lot of snow from this past week in Oswego New York.
Nope, you can have that lol
I am in Rochester and I have 82 inches thus far for the season. Oswego is about an hour and a half away from Rochester. It is SO cold.
At least Erie freezes over. I could not stand that all winter.
I know i wish Lake Ontario would freeze over but as you know it’s much deeper. Where you live, in PA do you get Lahe Erie lane effect?
Yes but its not a lot. Mostly snow squalls and steady flurries. Just West of us gets more in the Highland mountains.
Funny, When I moved to Indiana, PA from Philly I thought I’d see more but thats not the case.
How much snow have you got this year?
Around 20-21″, about 13″ the last storm. I think we only average around 40″ a winter.

The predicted 18” from the blizzard in Raleigh. 🫤
You will be all day shoveling that deck,
This was a very unpredictable storm…most mets jumped on it way too soon and there was just a ton of click bait videos on YouTube talking about a mega storm. Simple truth it’s way too cold for storm to really perform as predicted. Cold air is dry and it can kill a storm sometimes.
All of that cold air that predicted in February if it’s too cold I see a lot of frowns coming from snow lovers when these storms keep getting shoved south and out to sea. Not saying that we won’t get any snow…but the extreme temps will be an issue so set you expectations reasonably…just saying
As long as it stays way below average the next six weeks, the snow on the ground now will still be around the second week of March.
You are in the split of the storm
Yup
15” of new snow. Currently 18 Bring on more. Good job Henry

Tennessee is ready…everyone will be able to eat for the next three months from their hoarded stores of 56 gallons of milk, 36 loaves of bread and several kegs of beer!
NO use to talk about accumulations until about Thursday when more models agree on a solution. A distance of 50 miles could mean 6 more inches of snow. There will be disappointments as always.
The higher totals will shift north the next 2 days is my opinion.
I am looking for some easy money this morning. I am betting that what the GFS is depicting on its 06z run has shifted much further north on its 12z run closer to what the CMC is depicting at 12z. Any takers?
That’s one thing I don’t bet on…lol!!! way too unpredictable. What the models show and what the storm does when it arrives can be so different. The storm could hit a dry slot and poof! there goes the snow!
My gut telling me the same…what could have been snow in mid Tennessee may be just catastrophic ice!
Juneau AK broke a record for snowfall for Dec. totaling 80 inches of snow for the month. My type of town. I may consider a winter vacation there soon. I am fed up with looking at bare ground 99% of the time for 3 months. Hagerstown currently sitting on 2 inches of snow for this winter.
Bud i note you are always posting about the lack of precip rain or snow in your area.. is there a meteorlogical reason for that or is is just a prolonged drought? I know the whole mid atlantic is in a long droght, i saw nj actually is in a drought advisory or something to that affect
As far as Hagerstown MD goes, it is mostly location. We are too far east and blocked by the Appalachians to get the full effect of lake effect plus down sloping dries up what limps over the ridges/mountains. And we are too far west to get the full effect of ocean storms. Going back over 150 years when weather records started to be kept in our…Read More
