We have had a string of relatively mild weather in the Las Vegas area the past several days, except for the gusty winds from time to time. Yesterday, winds gusted into the 40+mph range with overcast skies. Henry mentioned a storm report for wind near Las Vegas, but those storms were in the mountains west of here and not over the Las Vegas Valley.…Read More

This week as we have gone away from the omega blocking pattern of last week and will see several days of severe weather, and wet and stormy weather in the east. On Sunday into Monday showers and thunderstorms will...
Scattered showers continue over the Las Vegas Valley and much of the Southwest today. We are getting moderate rain at my location as of 15:15 PDT with a temperature of 62 deg. The upper low is spinning over AZ now and heading northeast out of the area. By Thursday, temperatures will be up into the low 90s and remain warm until the weekend. So far,…Read More
The upper level low has produced showery weather over much of the Southwest since last night. Our temperatures here have been in the low to mid 60s much of the day. More showers are expected over the Las Vegas Valley tomorrow before the low moves out. After that, we will see a rapid warm up by mid-week with temps getting into the upper 80s.

When a stratwarm appears in years with warm Marchs, usually Aprils that follow are cold in the east. WeatherBell
Well winters in the Artic have been warmer in recent years but not the summers as data clearly shows. But the human population in the Artic doesn’t change that much from winter to summer, actually it is higher in the summer, then what is causing the warmer winters there if it is not human induced?
Earths climate is in a constant state of change due to many factors not involving Man…Volcanoes , Earths wobble, Earths tilt ,Earths orbit around the Sun, Sun spots, Solar flares, Ocean currents, etc..How does the last 20 or so years of slight warming coincide with the last hundred or thousands of years to compare…..How was the Roman period 2k…Read More

Progressive pattern with positive NAO and positive AO seems to mean a change every 10 hours!

FYI, I was living in Miami in 1975-6 and saw it snow there. It didn’t stick, of course, but all the transplanted northerners got their furs out of cold storage.
Not to mention the blizzard of 73, when my cousins saw 11” in Charleston, and my hometown of Sumter, SC got 24”.

“Weather and Beer” was well done and very informative. Thanks for thinking of this forum and setting it up Henry. Another 1 of the wonderful things you do. Oh, it was nice seeing the faces of the names of the people on the “Weather Chat”. See you folks next Wednesday!!!

I wonder if the falling SOI values have anything to do with the models looking even weirder then usual and losing storms? I feel like every time they go up or down the models get weirder. Not sure but just a thought,
The GFS should be retired and thrown out, what a waste of tax payer dollars!

You know you are having a tough season when Arkansas has more snow than Minneapolis
Hahaha. So true. The weather is upside down this Winter!

Doing fine Henry. You are a part of old Accuweather group that used old school to predict weather not all computers fed by humans. Now all weather services and unfortunately Penn State all the thing is climate change. Every major event is climate change. How about over population around LA where fires have burned for years in semi arid climate…Read More

Amen, Henry. Go zero tolerance! One time and you’re history!!!
Reporting from Winston-Salem, NC- roads are brined, grocery stores and gas stations are packed. Will endeavor a trip to Costco because snow.
Current radar shows precipitation over southern Nevada, but most of this is virga. Nothing is reaching the ground at my location. But the big story is the wind picking up later today and lasting through Thursday morning. Current temperature here is 57 deg. with the winds gusting to 25 mph as of 08:00 PST.
I’m back for two months…can’t tell you how glad I am to see the warm sun (well, warmer than TN!) I’ll take the winds…makes the kids crazy but better than snow and ice!
Welcome home. I agree, I’m done with the snow and ice of the Northeast as well.

Thank you Henry for at least putting it out there the possibility that it “may” get too cold to snow.
Snowstorms are a miracle of nature…all of the right elements have to come together perfectly for one to occur. Hopping all of the elements and timing comes together to produce a massive snow storm but I’m very cautious and I’m managing my…Read More
Jan 1977 was very cold in the east, but very little snow in NE and N Mid-Atlantic.. The few inches that accompanied that outbreak stayed around for weeks. Henry, are there any pattern similarities now?
Yup
1993 storm happened when the NAO was just starting to head to positive
Right now it’s my unprofessional opinion that the OA is too negative and extreme for and east coast blizzard. I think once the indices start to ease up a bit we may see something… could be around mid to late January
I’m gonna guess the videos might be a little bit longer today
Merry Christmas to all on site and Henry for his great work and time he puts into forecast. Gives J B a run for money every day and stays on task, which J B has always had issues with. When these 2 were forced out of Accuweather started slide to being just another site. Became just another corporate entity not even recognizable To real weather…Read More

One of my German ancestor’s paddled/piked/dragged along in one of the other boats. We all ended up in winter wonderland Wisconsin.
